All Down Again
I find myself all down again
I’d lay it all down again
to take your breath into me
You mistaken stricken
for smitten
Forget a past already
written
Body of poetry
Dead beneath the weight of words
I have looked into the face of love
And I know I am nothing
I’m beneath the weight of it all
And a chill runs up my spine.
Awesome stuff, Mattwriks. I feel your resignation, dependence, and hope. Is that a reference to Genesis, where God scoops together the dust of the earth and breathes life into man and he becomes a living being made in his image?

Damn, I just read it again, and I caught something new: “Take (you)
your breath into me” implies the female role in relationship, which, I think, is one reason there are more church-going women than
men–again, the surrender and the giving over, the trust, etc.

Notes: This piece dates back to 1996 or 1997. Very old. Written on an old Palm Personal at a the Amtrak station in San Jose.
